Knob Hill Farm
Our story
We are Mike and Janine Robertson. Our goal is to produce high quailty food for our family and yours. We bought the acreage that is Knob Hill in the fall of 2013 and set to work building fence, a family, and a dream. Our farm has been USDA Certified Organic since 2016. We raise and sell Berkshire-cross pigs, eggs, broiler chickens, and vegetables. We also sell homemade soap (scent and dye free), as well as Christmas wreaths and candy during the Holiday season.
Our practices and ingredients
Our pigs and chickens are all USDA Certified Organic. This goes beyond what they are fed, and includes their housing, space, bedding, and care.
We exceed the minimum requirements for indoor and outdoor space for our pigs at all life stages. They have free access to indoors/outdoors year-round and can root and wallow.
The laying hens are free to roam our yard and pasture as the whole farm is organic. They eat grass and bugs and dust bathe in the grove. We lock them up at night for their safety.
The broiler chickens are raised in our brooder-house, with outdoor access until they have feathers. They are then moved to the chicken tractor in the pasture where they have all the grass and bugs they want.
Our products
We raise Certified Organic Pigs - the pork cannot be certified as the processor is not certified. The cured/smoked products would not qualify The sausage/bratwurst are made with organic spices (except the guajillo peppers in the chorizo), and are gluten free.
Our Broiler Chickens are pasture raised and Certified Organic. We raise two groups during the spring/summer. We take pre-orders and butcher the extra for sale out of our freezers. Most are whole chickens, but we also sell individual parts.
Our eggs are Certified Organic and free-range on our farm. They will not be listed here, but can be purchased directly from us.
Homemade soap- made in the traditional method from lard from our pigs along with other organic/food grade fats/oils. We do not use any synthetic scents or dyes.
Christmas Wreaths - these are made from all Iowa-grown greenery, freshly cut in Northern Iowa. The are hand-decorated by us, so each one is unique!
